HOW DOES ONE BECOME A 3X WORLD CHAMPION?
I'm not sure, but this is how I did it. My dad boxed when he was young in Mexico. I think his record was like 20-0 or 20-1. He came to America and met my mom Rachel, OH! My dad's name is Salomon Lopez Morquecho or Salomon Morquecho Lopez. He married my mom and started a family. They had my brother Sal Lopez, then my sister Rosemary, I came next, little sister Diane in that order.
My brother Sal was a fighter first, because he was getting beat up at school. Pops took him to the gym and he learned to box. He started whoop'n some butt.
Me? I was always fighting, not because my dad boxed and not because my brother did, I fought cause I could, and I liked it.
One day I was down the street from the house fighting. My brother's trainer, Jerry Jacobs picked him up and took him to the gym every day. On this day, I was down the
street getting ready to fight as they drove by. He pulled over and yelled out the window, "Hey!!! you wanna fight?" I thought that he wanted to watch, so I yelled back, "YEAH!." He yelled back for me to "jump in the car." I looked at him and he said, "Hurry up." So, I jumped into his car and we went to the gym.
That's how it really started.
